Speedometer 3.0 - Browser Performance (Speed)

Speedometer 3.0 is a benchmark that measures the responsiveness of web browsers by simulating user interactions in web applications.

It’s developed collaboratively by the teams behind the major web browser engines—Blink (Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers), Gecko (Firefox), and WebKit (Safari).

Here’s how it works:

Simulated User Interactions: Speedometer runs a suite of tests that simulate user actions like clicking buttons or opening menus.

Use of Web Libraries and Frameworks: It uses a mix of common web libraries and frameworks to reflect real-world usage.

Performance Measurement: The tool measures the time it takes for the browser to respond to these simulated actions.

New Tests in Version 3.0: The latest version includes tests for rendering canvas and SVG charts, code editing, text editing, and reading news sites, which are more representative of today’s web usage.

The results from Speedometer 3.0 can give you an idea of how well a browser performs under typical web browsing conditions.

For the most accurate results, it’s recommended to run the test in a clean browser profile, without any extensions, and to close other applications and browser tabs.

Speedometer 3.0 is particularly useful for developers and those interested in comparing the performance of different browsers or different versions of the same browser.

However, it can also be used by anyone curious about their browser’s performance.

I was curious and ran the test on the various browsers installed on my systems.

Here are my results for the various browsers on my systems:

Brave - 4.51

Edge - 4.53

Google - 6.55

Avast SecureBrowser - 8.45

DuckDuckGo - 8.82

Firefox - 9.7

If you're curious check out your browser and put it through the test at:

Let me know which browser has the highest score on your system.
