Cyber-Bob’s Cyber Safety Tip #104 - Router Default Passwords

Image
https://youtu.be/2-6Eo18bkdM In this Storybook adventure, Cyber-Bob takes readers on a warm, humorous journey into one of the most overlooked dangers in home cybersecurity — leaving your router on its original factory password. From discovering the forgotten “admin” tag still hanging on his own router, to outsmarting a goofy burglar armed with an oversized “DEFAULT” key, Cyber-Bob shows just how easy it is for bad actors to slip into your network if you never change that built-in password. Through friendly storytelling and senior-friendly illustrations, the chapter explains why default passwords are widely published online, how hackers scan neighborhoods looking for them, and how a strong custom password instantly shuts the trouble down. It ends with Cyber-Bob creating a safer, smarter home — and encouraging everyone to do the same. A simple change, a big difference. Hackers don’t break in — they just log in. Fix it once, and you shut a big door forever: Log into your router’s admin page (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). Change the admin password (the one that controls the router, not your Wi-Fi password). Make it long and unique — this one guards your entire network. While you’re in there, turn on updates or set them to automatic if available. Why this matters: If a crook gets into your router, they can: Redirect your traffic Spy on devices Change your Wi-Fi name Kick devices off Install malware at the network l...
