At 85, I’m Still Alive
When I was very young,
I was proud of my two front teeth.
Now, at 85,
I’m just happy I still have two front teeth.
When I was very young,
I was told I had eagle eyes.
Now, I’m happy my eyes are still good enough
to keep me driving down the road.
Life sure does change.
Some of it gets better,
some of it gets worse,
and some of it just makes you shake your head
and laugh before breakfast.
My teeth may no longer all be mine,
my eyes may not be as sharp as they once were,
but the wisdom, the humor,
and the enjoyment and love of life
have never changed.
And here’s the good part —
at 85, I’m still here.
Still breathing.
Still laughing.
Still learning.
Still causing just enough trouble
to prove I haven’t expired yet.
And if that isn’t something to be thankful for,
I don’t know what is.
