๐ Step 1: Check Your Device
Is Wi-Fi or Ethernet active?
- Click the network icon in the taskbar (bottom right).
- If it says Ethernet, you're using a cable.
- If it says Wi-Fi, you're connected wirelessly.
Try another device.
- If your phone or tablet connects fine, the issue is likely your PC.

- Restart your PC.
- Restart your modem/router:
- Unplug the power cable.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and wait 2–3 minutes.

- Red or no light? Likely an issue with your internet provider.

- Press
Windows + Ito open Settings. - Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Network Adapter and click Run.
- Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix issues.
๐ Step 5: Test Your Connection
- Open a browser and try
www.google.com. - If it fails, type
http://192.168.1.1orhttp://192.168.0.1— this opens your router’s page.- If it loads, your PC is talking to the router — but the router may not be online.
๐ Step 6: Reconnect Your Network

- Unplug the Ethernet cable from your PC and router.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Plug it back in securely at both ends.
- Check if the connection re-establishes.
๐ถ If you're using Wi-Fi:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks.
- Click your network name and choose Forget.
- Reconnect and re-enter your password.

- Use mobile data to visit your ISP’s website or search “[Your ISP] outage map.”
- You can also call their support line.
๐งผ Step 8: Reset Network Settings (Last Resort)
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset.
- Click Reset now.
- Your PC will restart and reset all network adapters.
๐ง Bonus Tips
- Elevate your router. Keep it off the floor and away from walls.
- Use Ethernet if possible. It’s more stable than Wi-Fi.
- Label your network clearly. Avoid confusing names like “NETGEAR123.”
- Check for Airplane Mode. It disables all network connections — make sure it’s off.
